Senator John McCain is a leading supporter of the casino gambling industry.

While I favor helping American Indians escape poverty by developing money-making enterprises on reservations; gambling addiction is a disease like alcoholism. I am against tax breaks for casinos and unenthusiastic about state lotteries. Casinos and lotteries are regressive taxation; they take away from those that can least afford it.

Where games of chance are permitted, they should be coupled with treatment programs just the same way as developers receiving prime properties often must  provide low-income housing; and polluters must spend pollution “credits”.
